Learning Stories, also known as Pedagogical Narrations

Pedagogical narrations (or learning stories) are gradually gaining traction in the field of early childhood education.  They are a way of making children’s learning visible to adults, and showing that what is sometimes viewed as ‘just play’ is really profound learning and development.  They have been part of the observation process for assessing and screening children for decades, but have only recently made their way into ECE training courses and become more common practice at centers.  While they are more common at centres, they are still not very common because it is both a shift in practice, and they take time (which is a precious resource for any teacher).
